Today me and my fellow colleagues had a good laugh among ourselves. We were discussing and brainstorming on our upcoming so-called graduation day, to commemorate our 1 year as a management trainee in the company, and at the same time to welcome the new batch of management trainees. While we were discussing, something of the old came back to my mind. It was during my years in Form 6.
Okay, here it goes.
It was the tradition in the school where the lower sixth formers will be in charge in the performance to celebrate our country’s independence day. And since the art’s stream student are the ones who are taking history as a subject for out STPM cert, my class was directly involve. Me and my classmates were the one putting heads into this project. We need to come out with something! We write scripts, we jot down the order for the day. But all in all, I am the one who put in a lot of ideas and effort in this. The recording of the dialogue, the script, directing the rehearsals and so on. So in the end, I delegated all the jobs to them. However, in any show, there need someone backstage to make the thing flows smoothly, basically a runner to run the thing. As I was directly involve and the one who knew the script in and out, I was the runner and did not have any role in the play, except for the finale which we sang the song by Sudirman’s “Tanggal 31”.
To cut thing short, everything went well.
Just one thing.
A few days after the performance, my General Studies teacher came into the class. Of course, she commented about the play and how good it was. And then she says, but, there is someone who I didn’t see in the play.
Then she pointed me out.
She says in Malay, “This Victor, I did not see him acting in the play, well, he is so unactive”
I was like, WHAT??!!!!
After all this effort and she has such perception on me?
Well, moral of the story is, no matter what you do, no matter how much effort you put in. It is meaningless unless you put yourself in the spotlight. If not it would just be a waste of time.
This incident, even though were so small, but leave such big impact on myself.
Always remember, to make yourself known if you have done something.
Well, some might say, this is being not humble. Always chasing for limelight.
Well, there is a thin fine line on this issue on humbleness.
I’m not going to the extreme.
What I mean is that if you’ve done something, make sure you give yourself due credit. Same goes to the
wrong things that you have done. If you are responsible, be a man and admit, and move on. Learn from your mistakes.
Merci.
